LEGENDARY MISERABLISTS Joy Division are to be honoured by the release
of a Zune mp3 player with the Peter Saville artwork for the Unknown
Pleasures album on the back.
The black 80GB bit of Vole gear will also come pre-installed with the
Joy Division rockumentary also called Unknown Pleasures which tells the
life of the band and its enigmatic and unfortunate frontman, Ian Curtis.
The exclusive Zune is following in the footsteps of Apple with its U2
versions of the Ipod. The only difference is that the band is not so
big, but is infinitely less smug than the sanctimonious / smug
combination that is U2 and Apple.
Only 500 Joy Division Zunes being made, which if they sell the lot
should increase sales of the Zune by nearly 50 times. They will cost
$399.
One has to wonder if someone who likes Joy Division would want to be
seen dead with a Zune, or would they rather string themselves up from
the rafters in a terraced house in Manchester. μ
